Today, Apple launched its latest model of the smartwatch on Australian shores and it’s certainly made one big, water-resistant splash. After listening to the masses and revising the original model, Apple has managed to implement some pretty spiffy revisions to produce a smartwatch that is heavily consumer-driven, technologically-advanced, and ultra-classy.
Let’s take a quick look at the latest-and-greatest features that have created what Apple is dubbing “the ultimate device for a healthy life”.
It’s completely water-proof
Perhaps the biggest revolution of all is that the smartwatch can now be taken for a dip up to 50 metres deep. With every possible gap in the physical design hermetically sealed to prevent any leakage, the newest model is a step up from the original splashproof smartwatch. The speaker even spits out water when the watch re-emerges! It’s one of the first smartwatches to be built fit for swimming, and unlike sports watches, it comes in a wide choice of super sleek fashionable designs to take you straight from the pool to the office.
It has a built-in GPS chip
Another massive feature that Apple has introduced to its smartwatch is a handy GPS, which means users no longer have to rely on their trusty smartphones for location data when pavement-pounding. The GPS is triggered as soon as you start your outdoor workout – whether that’s going for a run, a bike ride, or a swim. In addition to tracking your routes and distances reached, the smartphone also monitors your heart rate, making it an ideal all-in-one package if you want both a fitness tracker and a smartwatch.
It reminds you to ‘breathe’ and engage in mindfulness
One of our favourite features of the new model is a new app called ‘Apple Breathe’, which is kind of like your digital meditation coach. In a world that is buzzing with busy people always on the move, Apple has decided to remind us to relax, reset and refresh from time to time. Apple Breathe enables users to set a deep breathing session for either one or five minutes, which the app then guides you through while monitoring your heartrate. At the end, you are given a summary of your breathing.
It’s faster AND brighter
Built with a second generation dual-core S2 chip processor, the Apple Watch Series 2 performs at a noticeably faster rate than its predecessor. Apps load almost instantly, and with the dock being just a button press away from the home screen, they’re also much easier to access. Furthermore, the implementation of a new touchscreen means the latest smartwatch is twice as bright as the original model – in fact, Apple has said it’s the brightest screen it’s ever created.
And last but not least, it comes with sharp and shiny new accessories
What happens when you combine one of the world’s leading brands in high-fashion luxury with a global tech giant that has a penchant for cutting-edge innovation? You get the series 2 edition of the Apple watch. In what Apple has called “an iconic collaboration”, the company has paired up with French fashion manufacturer Hermes to produce its latest device. Now, you can class it up with a slick-and-chic Hermes Apple Watch, complete with a super-stylish leather band. Fitness fanatics can also rejoice – Apple has teamed up with Nike in this newest design, offering an activity-focused smartwatch called the Nike+ which comes with special software and a perforated band.
