Yarra Trams harnesses the huge responsibility of managing the day-to-day operations of Melbourne’s extensive tram network. Working under a franchise agreement with the Victorian Government, the company plays a major public service role. To make life much simpler for its millions of daily patrons, Yarra Trams worked with the Appscore team to develop a free, live travel information app enabling commuters to monitor tram departure and arrival times as well as service disruptions to their routes.

The ultimate challenge faced by Yarra Trams was to keep customers satisfied in an age where we expect information to be readily available. With GPS having well and truly infiltrated its way into our daily lives, it was important for the public transport network to capitalise on these benefits in order to give commuters greater ease and convenience when travelling by tram.

With Tram Tracker, commuters can plan ahead and monitor their journeys thanks to:

  • Search function enabling users to search for their stop name or stop number
  • GPS tracking directing users to nearest tram stops and associated routes
  • Indication of free tram zones
